Founded in 2020, the Occupational Therapist Appreciation Program (OTAP) exists to acknowledge the ongoing contributions made by occupational therapists to the Australian community.
Australia honours its medical professionals – and justifiably so. They preserve our health, guide us through our times of vulnerability, and restore us when life knocks us down.
Dentists. Doctors. Surgeons. Anaesthetists. Dietitians. These are the people we look to when our bodies fail us – we know what they do and we recognise them for it.
But if you asked the average Australian what an occupational therapist does, most of the answers would be something like ‘career counselling’ or ‘psychology … for business’.
OTs don’t fix shattered teeth or diagnose illnesses or perform critical surgeries. Their work is slow and methodical. They heal people, not limbs.
But it’s OTs who are there for us when we’re at our most vulnerable – when we’re recovering from injuries, when chronic illness impacts our careers, when old age makes us frail.
With compassion and dedication, OTs have enabled countless Australians experiencing disability to work, have relationships and lead joyful, fulfilling lives.
Now, it’s our turn to give back to OTs. In partnership with Occupational Therapy Australia, OTAP has created an occupational therapy community that includes rewards programs, networking services and industry awards.
